Bengaluru :In a fervent denouncement of recent events, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condemned the freezing of the Congress party's bank accounts by the Income Tax Department.

The move, which comes just two months before critical election campaigns, has sparked widespread concern over its potential impact on the democratic process. Siddaramaiah labeled the action as an assault on democracy itself, asserting that it severely undermines the ability of the Congress party to effectively contest the upcoming elections.

He called upon the Election Commission to intervene and ensure that the Congress is permitted to utilize its bank accounts for campaign activities. The freezing of the Congress accounts, according to Siddaramaiah, goes beyond mere administrative measures and represents a calculated maneuver aimed at stifling the party's operational capabilities.

He highlighted the detrimental effects, ranging from restricted mobility to curtailed campaign activities such as advertising and outreach efforts. Furthermore, Siddaramaiah emphasized that such actions not only target a single political entity but also infringe upon the democratic rights of every Indian citizen. He warned against the dangerous precedent set by utilizing state apparatus for political gains, emphasizing the urgent need to safeguard the integrity of Indian democracy.

Drawing a stark analogy, Siddaramaiah likened the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to modern-day Asuras, wielding the powers of agencies like the Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate (ED),and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as weapons against democracy. He underscored the contrast between the BJP's consolidated power, bolstered by alliances with entities like Adani, and the genuine strength of India's people.

In light of these developments, Siddaramaiah called for a resurgence of democratic spirit among India's citizens to confront what he described as a slide towards autocracy. He urged for a unified effort to reclaim the essence of Indian democracy, emphasizing that the nation's soul is at stake. As tensions escalate and concerns mount over the integrity of the electoral process, Siddaramaiah's impassioned plea serves as a rallying cry for the preservation of democratic principles in India.
