Government Approves Rs 1658.17 Crore Recovery and Reconstruction Plan for Joshimath

New Delhi :The High-Level Committee, under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has approved the Recovery and Reconstruction (R&R) plan of Rs 1658.17 crore for Joshimath. The plan aims to address the issues of land subsidence and provide relief to the affected residents of Joshimath.

Key Highlights of the R&R Plan:

Total R&R cost: Rs 1658.17 crore
Central assistance: Rs 1079.96 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF)
State government contribution: Rs 578.21 crore, including Rs 91.82 crore for land acquisition for resettlement

Salient Features of the R&R Plan:

  1. Demolition of unsafe structures and construction of new houses for affected families
  2. Compensation for loss of property and livelihood
  3. Rehabilitation and resettlement of affected families
  4. Infrastructure development in the resettlement area
  5. Environmental restoration and conservation measures

Implementation of the R&R Plan:

The R&R plan will be implemented by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by the Uttarakhand government. The SPV will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the plan with the central government and other stakeholders.

Support for Affected Residents:

The government has also announced a slew of measures to provide immediate relief to the affected residents of Joshimath. These measures include:

  • Distribution of ex-gratia compensation
  • Provision of temporary accommodation
  • Arrangement of food and other essential supplies
  • Medical assistance

The government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected residents of Joshimath. The R&R plan will provide the necessary support to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
