Over 300 BMTC Contract Drivers Protest Low Pay, Halt Electric Bus Services in Bengaluru

More than 300 drivers working on contract for BMTC’s electric buses went on strike near the Suryanagar Bus Depot in Bengaluru, demanding better pay. Although 28 buses were scheduled to run, none could operate because the drivers didn’t show up.

These drivers, hired through agencies, earn ₹22,000 a month and say it’s not enough to manage rising living costs. They’ve been working for two years but don’t get the same benefits as regular BMTC drivers.

The protestors are asking for a minimum monthly salary of ₹28,000 and equal work conditions. They feel it's unfair to be treated differently even though they operate the same electric buses. The
