The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea seeking direction to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to disqualify Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly seeking votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the name of religious deities and places of worship during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The court deemed the petition as "thoroughly misconceived," emphasizing that it cannot instruct the ECI to adopt a specific stance on any complaint. The petitioner alleged that during a speech delivered by PM Modi in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, he urged voters to support his party by invoking Hindu and Sikh deities, as well as their respective places of worship.
