Candidates with 4 years undergraduate degree can directly pursue PhD : UGC Chairman

The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman said candidates with a four-year undergraduate degree can directly pursue PhD and do not need a master's degree.
Explaining the advantages of the four-year undergraduate program (FYUP),UGC Chairman Jagdesh Kumar said that the first advantage is that one does not have to do a master's degree to join a PhD program.
While the FYUP is expected to be fully implemented, he said, "There is no deadline but we will continue to work with higher education institutions to implement the FYUP as soon as possible," and assured that the three-year courses would not be suspended till then.
