Bengaluru : The Grilahakshmi Yojana, a landmark initiative by the state government aimed at empowering women by providing them with Rs 2,000 per month, has made significant strides while facing certain challenges, as Lakshmi Hebbalkar, the Minister for Women and Child Development, stated.

As of the latest update, a total of 9,44,155 applicants have yet to receive the financial benefits of the program, according to Minister Hebbalkar.

Out of the total pending cases:
- 3,082 applicants were disqualified due to the unfortunate circumstance of the head of the family's death.
- Demo verification for 1,59,356 applicants did not pass muster.
- A significant number, 5,96,268, still need their Aadhaar linked with their beneficiary accounts, though efforts are underway to rectify this.
- In 2,17,536 cases, the linking of Aadhaar with bank accounts has been successfully accomplished.
- Another challenge arose with 1,75,683 beneficiaries having disparities in their names and addresses. The department is addressing this through e-KYC procedures with banks.
- Additionally, 9,766 cases are currently under review due to data entry discrepancies.
Minister Hebbalkar emphasized the government's commitment to resolving these challenges.
The government has released a substantial sum of 2,169 crores to benefit 1.8 crore eligible beneficiaries, with an additional 2,280 crores disbursed to 1.14 lakh beneficiaries in September alone.
Notably, by October 4, 2023, 93 lakh beneficiaries have received the promised Rs 2,000 each in their bank accounts, marking a significant success. Minister Hebbalkar announced that rigorous efforts are underway to expedite payments to the remaining beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The Grilahakshmi Yojana continues to make strides in enhancing women's economic empowerment in the state, with the government, as Minister Hebbalkar reiterated, committed to resolving the outstanding challenges and ensuring the scheme's success.
