Karnataka Lowers SSLC and PUC Pass Marks to Boost Student Success

In a major decision aimed at improving student pass rates, the Karnataka government has reduced the SSLC (Class 10) pass mark to 33% and the PUC (Class 12) pass mark to 30%.

Officials said the move aligns the state’s evaluation system with national boards like CBSE and aims to create a more uniform grading structure. However, the decision has drawn mixed reactions while some welcome it as a relief for struggling students, others argue it could compromise academic standards.

Educationists have expressed concern that the focus should instead be on improving teaching quality and student learning outcomes rather than lowering benchmarks.
