CM Siddaramaiah to Add LKG and UKG to Anganwadis

Bengaluru:Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to upgrade all Anganwadi centers in Karnataka, as announced by Lakshmi Hebbalkar, the Minister of Women and Child Development.

Speaking to the media after her meeting with the Chief Minister at Vidhana Soudha on Monday, Hebbalkar said that an expert committee will be formed to provide pre-primary education (LKG and UKG) in the new Anganwadi centers, except for the Kalyana Karnataka region.

Our goal is to provide quality education and nutritious food to children, said Hebbalkar. The Chief Minister has approved upgrading Anganwadi centers. We will provide uniforms, books, and bags to the children, and steps will be taken to issue Transfer Certificates (TC) similar to schools.

This decision addresses concerns about the quality of education in government schools. The Education Department also proposed starting government Montessori schools, but this was opposed by Anganwadi workers. In response, the government is considering upgrading Anganwadi centers to offer pre-primary education in both Kannada and English.

Hebbalkar assured that discussions have already been held with Anganwadi workers about starting pre-primary education.Among the Anganwadi teachers, 9000 are graduates and over 1500 are postgraduates.

This means we can provide quality education without any job losses," she explained. The meeting with the Chief Minister was also attended by School and Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, along with senior officials from the Education Department and the Women and Child Welfare Department.
