Defence Acquisition Council approves capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 2.23 lakh crore

New Delhi: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC),chaired by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, today accorded approval in respect of Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) for various Capital Acquisition Proposals amounting to Rs 2.23 lakh crore.


98% of the total AoNs (Rs 2.20 lakh crore) are to be sourced from domestic industries. This is a major boost to ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence.
Procurement of 15 Light Combat Helicopters (LCHs) and 12 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk 1A from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) gets a nod.
Medium Range Anti-Ship Missiles (MRASMs) for surface platform of the Indian Navy accorded approval.
Acquisition of Towed Gun System (TGS) cleared to replace Indian Field Gun (IFG).
Indigenization drive:
The DAC’s decision to procure 98% of the equipment from domestic industries is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defence. This will not only boost the domestic defence industry but also create thousands of new jobs.
Strengthening the Armed Forces:
The approval of the procurement of LCHs, LCAs, MRASMs and TGS will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. These modern and sophisticated systems will provide the Armed Forces with the edge they need to face evolving threats.
The DAC’s decisions are a testament to the Government’s commitment to modernize the Armed Forces and achieve self-reliance in defence.
