India’s Jobless Rate at 5.1% in April – Men Hit Harder Than Women
For the first time ever, India has started sharing monthly unemployment numbers to better understand the job market. In April 2025, the country’s jobless rate was 5.1% for people aged 15 and above.

The report shows that unemployment was a bit higher for men (5.2%) than for women (5.0%). This data comes from the government’s new system to track jobs more regularly, making it easier for leaders, businesses, and experts to take quicker and smarter decisions. Until now, job data came only once a year or every few months.
