ISRO to launch radar imaging satellite RISAT-1B aboard PSLV-C61 from Sriharikota on May 18

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its radar imaging satellite, RISAT-1B (also known as EOS-09),aboard the PSLV-C61 mission on May 18, 2025.

The launch is scheduled for 6:59 a.m. IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

RISAT-1B is equipped with a C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR),allowing it to capture high-resolution images of Earth in all weather conditions, day or night. The satellite will be placed in a sun-synchronous orbit to enable consistent imaging of the same location at regular intervals.

The mission is aimed at boosting India’s Earth observation capabilities, with applications spanning agriculture monitoring, forest mapping, urban planning, disaster response, and national security.
