Karnataka has long been a leader in agriculture, producing crops such as ragi, wheat, rice, and pulses, along with cash crops like sugarcane and tobacco. Belagavi, in particular, stands out due to its industrial achievements. It was the first city in Karnataka to establish a hydraulics industry and has since evolved into a well-developed hub for agriculture, trade, and industry. Often referred to as Karnataka’s “second capital,” Belagavi offers the infrastructure and opportunities necessary to support initiatives like NIFTEM.

In his discussions with Chirag Paswan, Jagdish Shettar emphasized the transformative potential of NIFTEM for the region. He highlighted how the institute could benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders by advancing food processing, technology, and management. Shettar also underscored Belagavi’s strategic position as an agricultural and industrial hub, making it an ideal location for such a prestigious institute.

Responding to the proposal, Chirag Paswan assured Shettar that Belagavi’s facilities and resources would be thoroughly reviewed. He expressed confidence in the city’s ability to support the establishment of NIFTEM, given its robust infrastructure and central role in Karnataka’s development.

If approved, the proposed institute is expected to solidify Belagavi’s position as a key player in food technology and entrepreneurship while driving innovation and economic growth across the region.
