Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a special ceremony in Chandigarh, marking the successful implementation of threetransformativecriminallaws:The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, The BharatiyaNagarikSurakshaSanhita, and The BharatiyaSakshyaAdhiniyam.
These laws replace the Indian Penal Code of 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1898, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, signifying the end of colonial-era statutes and a major shift in India’s legal framework.
The Prime Minister described this transition as a watershed moment in India’s history, highlighting the repeal of the sedition law as a step toward aligning the legal system with contemporary democratic values. Modi also witnessed a live demonstration of a crime scene investigation, showcasing the practical use of advanced tools like e Sakshya, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e Summons.
The implementation of these laws reflects the government’s effort to modernize the legal system, ensuring it meets the nation’s current needs and aspirations while promoting justice and efficiency.
