Savadi Slams Separate State Demand, Calls for Uttara Karnataka Development Action
Athani MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Lakshman Savadi stated that a separate state for North Karnataka is unnecessary. Instead, he suggested the formation of a dedicated development board with adequate funding to focus on the region’s progress. This approach, he argued, would address the demand for a separate state and pave the way for the region’s growth. He assured that he would raise this issue during the upcoming legislative session.
Speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone for developmental projects worth ₹4.10 crore in Athani, Savadi emphasized the need to grant special status to the Kittur Karnataka region, similar to the status given to the Hyderabad Karnataka region through the establishment of the Kalyana Karnataka Development Board.
The Kittur Karnataka region, formerly part of the Mumbai Karnataka area, remains underdeveloped, and a special status would help accelerate its progress, he added.
Development Projects in Athani for 2024-25:
Under the 15th Finance Commission: 16 projects estimated at ₹182.70 lakh, including roadworks, drainage construction, and park development.
Under SFC Scheme: 14 projects estimated at ₹49.52 lakh, including roadworks, drainage construction, and drinking water facilities.
Under Municipality Grants: 5 projects estimated at ₹32.50 lakh, including crematorium and park development, and drainage construction.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (2018-19): 7 projects estimated at ₹98.38 lakh, including solid waste management and other developmental works.
