Belagavi: The Karnataka State Farmers Association and the hasiru Sena staged a protest by forming a human chain at Channamma Circle in the city on Monday, demanding that sugar factories should not work on sugarcane till the price of sugarcane growers in the district is fixed.

In the wake of fixing the support price for the sugarcane grown by the farmers, there is a situation where the farmers resort to suicide.  There are total 27 sugar mills in the district.  But he expressed displeasure that the sugar commissioner had no information.
 
The outstanding sugarcane bill of Hubli sugar factory is around 3 crores  pending.  It should be given.  The FRP rate has been fixed last time as well.  The Chief Minister has demanded that this be taken seriously  He insisted that the sugarcane balance bill should be paid soon.
